Wilson Forced to Wait to Test New Minardi

Briton Justin Wilson was forced to wait until Thursday for his first run in his new Minardi car after technical problems today hampered its debut at Ferrari's Fiorano test track.

Briton Justin Wilson was forced to wait until Thursday for his first run in his new Minardi car after technical problems today hampered its debut at Ferrari's Fiorano test track.

Wilson, who flew out to Italy on Tuesday to test out his new car before his Formula One debut in Australia next month, had to sit on the sidelines while experienced teammate Jos Verstappen put it through its paces, completing 24 laps.

But the English driver will be given his chance on Thursday after the cash-strapped team decided to stay for a second day of running at their World Champion rivals' circuit.

Despite the problems, the team were pleased with the new machine.

"The initial shakedown runs with the new car are always a bit nerve-wracking but today's first test of the PS03 was very successful and bodes well for the upcoming season," said team boss Paul Stoddart.

"Judging by the comments made by Jos the 2003 Minardi represents a significant step forward in terms of handling and performance. He was also very positive about the power and driveability of the Cosworth engine.

"The combination should help the team achieve its goal for this season of becoming established as a regular mid-grid contender in the Formula One world championship."
