Williams will Seek FIA Clarification over Incident

Williams-BMW will request a clarification of the regulations after Juan Pablo Montoya criticised the sport's rulers for not acting on Michael Schumacher's driving in the opening lap of Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix.

Williams-BMW will request a clarification of the regulations after Juan Pablo Montoya criticised the sport's rulers for not acting on Michael Schumacher's driving in the opening lap of Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix.

Montoya claimed race winner Schumacher should be punished after the Ferrari driver almost clashed with him on the opening lap of the race. Although Williams have not lodged a protest, they will, however, seek advice from the FIA.

"In these circumstances (team manager) Dickie Stanford would ask (FIA race director) Charlie Whiting for his opinion," said technical director Patrick Head. "Ferrari do this all the time. I am not as agitated, by any means, about this as Juan is, but then he was the guy in the cockpit. But we shall just have to see about it.

"We know you cannot move off the central line to take the very inside of the track but we need to know if a driver can go to the very outside edge. Michael had Juan on the outside of him and that is what he did."

Schumacher started slowly and Williams-BMW driver Montoya claimed he had to weave around the rear of his rival's Ferrari machine before almost being forced into the wall.
