Webber plays down Friday's times
Championship leader Mark Webber has played down the significance of Friday's times ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix
Webber and Red Bull team-mate Vettel dominated today's sessions, with the German finishing ahead of the Australian both in the morning and in the afternoon.
Despite finishing nearly four tenths of a second off Vettel's pace in the afternoon, Webber admitted he was not worried about the times today.
"I don't normally battle on Friday," said Webber, who is 21 points ahead of Vettel. "He did a few more laps and a laptime at the end. As usual he was not hanging around but Sunday is what counts.
"As usual, we have seen people have not shown their maximum on a Friday. We had a reasonable day today and we know these guys have the potential to come back.
"So, as usual Friday times don't count towards the championship - we need to do the job on Sunday."
He added: "The balance is pretty good honestly. It is a circuit that has a lot of different types of corners so you cannot have everything, and you need to work on priorities and what works best for laptimes, that is what we will have a look at tonight.
"Th car has speed out of box, the boys did a good job to get it together and it ran faultlessly today so a good effort from the guys."
Vettel was equally pleased with his day, having kicked off the weekend in perfect fashion.
"We had a trouble-free day, that is the most important thing, especially on a track like this where I have a feeling that I need to get into a rhythm through quick corners following each other," Vettel said.
"I was important not to have any trouble and the car was reliable today. I have a reasonable feeling and pace was alright."
