Villeneuve still disappointed by penalty
Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve has said he is still disappointed by the stewards' decision to delete his best qualifying times for holding up Giancarlo Fisichella, even though he bounced back to score a world championship point yesterday
Villeneuve was moved down the grid after Fisichella complained to race stewards that his best effort had been ruined by the Canadian not moving over for him during the Q2 session.
Although Villeneuve shrugged off the setback and raced well to grab a point with eighth place, he said on Monday that he was still annoyed at what happened.
"I was of course disappointed with the decision the FIA [stewards] took after Fisichella complained that I blocked him on Saturday," he said on his own website. "But, thanks to Webber's engine change, I finally lost only one place on the grid, putting me on the clean side of the track.
"To be honest, I don't think that I blocked him. There was enough length between us and I guess that his reaction was a bit exaggerated. Anyway, the qualifying format is the same for everyone and to be on the track at the right time is a key part of the game..."
Villeneuve said he was pleased to have taken home a point, and that he had been able to save his engine in the closing stages of the race for this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix.
"Concerning the race, I was happy for the team that we could score this well-deserved point. The pace of the car was good, except with heavy fuel loads when it was a difficult one to drive.
"Towards the end of the race, when we were certain of the outcome, we decided to save my engine for the race in Barcelona next week - other drivers did this as well."
