Villeneuve Hoping for Better Things in Canada

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve is hoping for better things at his home Grand Prix after another disappointing and point-less race on Sunday.

Canadian Jacques Villeneuve is hoping for better things at his home Grand Prix after another disappointing and point-less race on Sunday.

Villeneuve and his British American Racing team failed to complete the Monaco Grand Prix after the 1997 World Champion suffered a mechanical failure on lap 46 of the event.

His hopes, however, were dashed at the start of the race, when his Honda-powered car experienced a clutch problem that left him stranded on the grid. After yet another point-less race, Villeneuve is looking for brighter things at the Canadian Grand Prix in two weeks time.

"We had a problem with the clutch at the start and lost everything because of that," explained Villeneuve. "By the time we started the car I was obviously a lap down, but only half the cars finished the race today so you have to be there and keep pushing.

"It was a shame because we had a strategy to pit very late and even with all the fuel we had on board we were doing very competitive lap times. The tyres were also holding up very well so we could have had a good race, but the car suddenly developed a problem and I had to pull over.

"Good luck hasn't been on our side again here so we have to hope for better things in Canada."

Frenchman Olivier Panis also failed to finish after an accident with Renault's Jenson Button on lap 53 of the race. BAR are the only team with no points after the first seven races.
