Villeneuve Hopeful Ahead of Home Grand Prix

Jacques Villeneuve heads home to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix next Sunday hoping that his revised British American Racing car will be more competitive for the rest of the season.

Jacques Villeneuve heads home to compete in the Canadian Grand Prix next Sunday hoping that his revised British American Racing car will be more competitive for the rest of the season.

Villeneuve is still awaiting his first point this year after seven races, but the French-Canadian believes that the changes made to his BAR could give him a greater chance of success.

"The changes to the car won't solve all our problems but we should be a little more competitive for the rest of the season so we're in a better position to take advantage of opportunities," Villeneuve said.

The BAR004 will be powered by the latest-evolution Honda engine and will feature a revised gearbox and rear suspension and an aerodynamic kit that comprises of sidepods, diffuser and barge boards.

The Brackley-based team hope that the new-evolution car will bring a change of luck after being struck down with clutch problems since the start of the year.

But for Villeneuve it will give him the chance to return to the St. Lawrence Seaway on Ile Notre Dame to race on the circuit named after his late father Gilles for the seventh time in Formula One.

Villeneuve, who finished second on the man-made island six years ago, added: "I always enjoy my home Grand Prix so I'm looking forward to the weekend.

"This is a good track to race on. Not so much to qualify on, because it's not very interesting, but for racing there are a lot of overtaking opportunities.

"Montreal is one of my favourite towns and I love the people. It's great to be back home again."
