Theissen predicts more podiums for BMW

BMW motorsport boss Mario Theissen believes the German squad's podium at the Canadian Grand Prix will not be their only one this season

German Nick Heidfeld, along with Williams' Alex Wurz, became the first non-Ferrari or McLaren driver to reach the podium this season at last Sunday's race in Montreal.

The result allowed BMW to have more points in six races that in the whole of the 2006 season, and Theissen says the team have already achieved their goal for the year.

He reckons, however, there is more to come from BMW.

"Our form is very much on an upward curve," said Theissen. "Six races into the season we have collected two points more than in the whole of 2006.

"We achieved our aim for the season for the first time in Montreal in what was the best overall result so far for the team.

"But this should not be our only podium finish of the season."

Although the Montreal race was chaotic, with four safety car periods, Theissen believes Heidfeld's second place was not a consequence of just good luck.

"I'm really proud of this team," he added. "Nick certainly did not finish second by default. All the incidents in Sunday's race took place behind him. That second place was his on merit - he was simply faster than one of the McLarens and both Ferraris."
