Super Aguri set modest goals for Sepang

Super Aguri's managing director Daniel Audetto says the Japanese squad would be happy to qualify in the top 15 in the next race in Sepang

Super Aguri set modest goals for Sepang

The Honda-powered team, in their second Formula One season, showed impressive form in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, despite having unveiled their new car just two days before the first practice session.

Japanese driver Takuma Sato made it into the final shootout in qualifying, a first for Super Aguri, and went on to finish in 12th position.

But Audetto admits Melbourne's qualifying performance was not a true reflection of Super Aguri's real form, and he has set more modest goals for the Malaysian Grand Prix.

"We know that a couple of the top teams had a few problems during the qualifying sessions in Australia, so we believe that our grid positions were not an indication of our true performance," said Audetto.

"However, we are very happy that we made it for the first time into Q2 with both drivers and then into Q3 with Takuma, but to be in the top 15 in Malaysia after qualifying would be great."

Super Aguri have enjoyed a positive test at Sepang this week, and despite being cautious about their chances, Audetto says the team will try hard to score their first points.

"We'll do our best, as ever," he added. "Now that all of the cars on the grid are so reliable it makes scoring points more and more difficult, but we shall try."

The potential-laden F1 car that Ferrari neglected

The late Mauro Forghieri played a key role in Ferrari’s mid-1960s turnaround, says STUART CODLING, and his pretty, intricate 1512 was among the most evocative cars of the 1.5-litre era. But a victim of priorities as Formula 1 was deemed less lucrative than success in sportscars, its true potential was never seen in period
