Super Aguri confirm Weigl talks

With the team's future now resting on approval for the deal from the Honda board early next week, the outfit issued a statement on Friday making it clear that they believe the Weigl offer was serious and that both parties think they could put a package together to keep the team alive.

Super Aguri boss Aguri Suzuki said: "We are happy that we have been able to resurrect talks between the Super Aguri F1 team and Franz Weigl at such short notice and to have the opportunity of presenting the Weigl Group to the Honda board once again.

"Such a partnership as the one proposed by Weigl Group will allow us to race for the foreseeable future and I am hopeful that all parties will find the group's offer a realistic package."

Franz Josef Weigl, the head of the company who held discussions with Super Aguri at last weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, said he was fully prepared to do what was necessary to help the team.

"Weigl Group has decided to speak out openly at this decisive time for Super Aguri F1 Team," he explained. "We would like to express sincere support for the team's participation in the Formula One world championship and the group's, together with their sponsors and partners, earnest intention to provide ongoing investment to secure the team's future."

Super Aguri are preparing as usual for the Turkish Grand Prix, with personnel due to begin flying out to Istanbul this weekend.

The team's trucks of spare parts have already left for Istanbul and although it is understood the Super Aguri cars are currently still in Britain, it will still be possible to fly them to Turkey in time for next weekend's race providing Honda given the green light at next week's board meeting, and Honda Racing F1 agree to continue their support.
