Stewart looking for a double celebration
Jackie Stewart is hoping for a double celebration at this weekend's Canadian
Grand Prix when the three-times world champion marks his 60th birthday.
The chairman of Stewart Grand Prix will toast his milestone this Friday
before jetting off to Montreal for the sixth round of this year's F1
championship.
Stewart is no stranger to success in Canada, having clinched his 1973 World
Championship at Mosport - which also marked his final Grand Prix - and
winning the 1971 and 1972 races.
'I have a long affinity with the event because for many years the Grand Prix
weekend has coincided with my birthday,' he said.
'We are confident, following last week's Silverstone test, of our push for
world championship points.'
His Stewart team has also enjoyed good fortune in Canada.
In 1997 Rubens Barrichello qualified third in the team's first visit to
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Last year both Barrichello and Jan Magnussen finished in the points.
Senior executives from Ford's headquarters in Detroit are expected to attend
this weekend's race.
