Schumacher to race in Malaysia

Michael Schumacher has changed his mind about sitting out the rest of the Formula One season, and will make his comeback next weekend.

Ferrari has announced the German will be racing in Malaysia, and at the Japanese Grand Prix on October 31.

A statement reads, 'After three days of intensive testing at Mugello and Fiorano, Michael saw that there had been a big improvement in his physical condition and therefore he has decided to take part in the two final and very important races of the season, to give the maximum support to Ferrari in the fight for the Championships and to fulfill the wishes of the team and all the fans.'

According to Italian press reports, Schumacher met with Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo for an hour on Wednesday.

McLaren driver Mika Hakkinen could tie up this year's championship with a win at Sepang next weekend.

But, championship contender Eddie Irvine has stated he needs the former world champion's help in fighting McLaren for the championship.

Schumacher has been out of Formula One since breaking his leg at the British Grand Prix in July.

The German has been complaining about inflammation in his knees over recent weeks, and after a medical examination in Paris last weekend, he announced he would not be returning to grand prix racing until next year.

Read the inside story about Michael Schumacher's return to Formula One in an exclusive interview with Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo, in next week's edition of Autosport magazine.
