Schumacher Questions Brazilian GP Result

World Champion Michael Schumacher claimed today that the result of the Brazilian Grand Prix should be amended because of confusion over the regulations involving a race stoppage.

World Champion Michael Schumacher claimed today that the result of the Brazilian Grand Prix should be amended because of confusion over the regulations involving a race stoppage.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen was deemed the winner of the race, which was stopped on lap 55 after Spaniard Fernando Alonso's crash, because he has been leading the 53rd lap on which the results were declared.

Jordan driver Giancarlo Fisichella was the leader when the race was stopped.

Schumacher, however, believes the sport's governing body, the FIA, have made a mistake because the 53rd lap covered less than three-quarter distance and the race should therefore only have counted for half points.

"Full points are awarded if three quarters of the distance is completed which would be 54 laps," Schumacher, who crashed out of the race at the water-soaked third corner, told German television.

"There were 55 laps raced but two are deducted and based on this Raikkonen was declared the winner. If the FIA say that more laps were raced then they must declare Fisichella the winner. It will be interesting to see how they explain this."
