Schumacher Confident Ahead of 2002

World Champion Michael Schumacher is optimistic that the Ferrari team will continue with their dominant form in the 2002 season.

World Champion Michael Schumacher is optimistic that the Ferrari team will continue with their dominant form in the 2002 season.

German Schumacher and the Italian team wrapped up both titles long before this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix and the Ferrari driver has predicted that it will be closer next season, with Williams also mounting a stronger title charge along with McLaren.

"Certainly, I think, BMW-Williams and McLaren-Mercedes will be close," said Schumacher. "They will make our life very difficult. But on the other side with what I know is going to come here, I am feeling pretty optimistic."

Ferrari have won in 2001 their third consecutive Constructors' Championship, while Schumacher has clinched both drivers' titles last year and this season. Now the German is aiming to win the final race of the season.

"Suzuka is one of the tracks I really like," he said. "It suits us and it should also be good in terms of the tyres. I think we are well prepared and so I am optimistic. There is no doubt, I am coming to Suzuka trying to win again."
