Salo Confident of Scoring More Points in 2002

Finn Mika Salo says he is confident of scoring points in every race of the season after Toyota's strong showing in the first three Grands Prix of 2002.

Finn Mika Salo says he is confident of scoring points in every race of the season after Toyota's strong showing in the first three Grands Prix of 2002.

Despite making their Formula One debut this season, the Japanese squad have impressed with their performances, scoring points both in Australia and Brazil after a couple of sixth place finishes by Salo.

After the Cologne-based squad tested at Imola last year, Salo is hoping to benefit from their past experience to continue with their strong showing at next week's San Marino Grand Prix, and the 35-year old says Toyota can realistically fight for the points in the remaining races of the season.

"I think we'll go well (at Imola)," said Salo. "I finished sixth the last time I raced there in 2000, and there is always a good atmosphere because the Italian fans are completely mad for Ferrari. Luckily, I get a good reception because I raced for 'their' team in '99.

"We tested at Imola last year with the TF101, although only Allan drove. This prior knowledge should help us here more than at most tracks because few teams get to test at Imola because of local noise restrictions.

"So I'm looking to it and nothing less than a top 10 qualifying position and a top six race finish will do. We proved in Brazil that we could do it, so I'm now expecting that at every race."
