Robert Kubica being evaluated for full F1 comeback with second test

Renault has confirmed Robert Kubica will get a second test with the French outfit to assess if he is capable of making a Formula 1 comeback

Kubica had returned to the cockpit of an F1 car last month when he tested a Renault-powered Lotus E20 at the Valencia circuit.

On Thursday, Renault said a second test will take place at the Paul Ricard circuit and, although it did not specify the date, Autosport understands it will be next week.

"Whilst the first day of testing at Valencia was no more than to let Robert get reacquainted with the feel of driving again, this second test will be to assess his capabilities to return to the highest level of competition," said team boss Cyril Abiteboul.

Why Ferrari should sign Kubica

"This is a new phase in his personal and professional journey and we are proud to support him in the form of lending our infrastructure at Paul Ricard that is suitable for professional and non-professional drivers.

"There are still many hurdles for him to overcome, and he knows better than anyone else that only his performance will determine if he can one day return to being a professional driver."

Kubica, absent from the sport since his rallying crash in 2011, said earlier this week he believed there is an "80 or 90%" chance that he will return to Formula 1.
