Rain causes disruption at Silverstone

British Grand Prix officials have implemented further contingency plans to preserve a number of temporary public car parks following more heavy rain

Organisers and police have been forced to limit access to a number of non-hard standing car parks on Friday following further torrential rain on Thursday.

The steps taken to protect the car parks have led to a revision of the traffic management system, with a reduction of the lanes leading to the the circuit, something which caused disruption for the fans arriving at the track today.

Circuit bosses are confident that a normal service will be resumed for Saturday and Sunday.

"We've been keeping a close eye on the weather throughout the last few weeks and have undertaken considerable contingency measures, said Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone.

"Following further rainfall on Thursday evening we implemented additional contingency plans to preserve and protect a number of car parks.

"We have to take a sensible and measured approach to getting spectators in and out of the circuit and, while the changeable weather doesn't offer any guarantees, we have given ourselves the best possible chance of successfully managing vehicle movements over the weekend."
