Raikkonen Happy to be Back on the Podium

Finn Kimi Raikkonen was delighted after equalling his best result in Formula One with a third place finish at Sunday's European Grand Prix.

Finn Kimi Raikkonen was delighted after equalling his best result in Formula One with a third place finish at Sunday's European Grand Prix.

The McLaren driver was finally capable of finishing two races in a row after having crossed the finish line in the points at the Canadian Grand Prix two weeks ago. Raikkonen had retired six consecutive times after his podium finish at the Australian Grand Prix and on Sunday he was happy to be back on the rostrum.

"I'm pleased to have equalled my previous best podium finish from Australia," said Raikkonen. "There was a lot happening at the start, but I managed to retain sixth place. After David and Montoya's incident I caught Ralf Schumacher and we had a good battle where I tried to outbrake him on a number of occasions.

"I was just about to have another go when the team told me on the radio that he would be coming in for his pitstop. I was able to stay out for a few more laps and could open up enough of a gap.

"We had the right strategy today and whilst we were not as quick as Ferrari we were definitely faster than Williams-BMW which is good news."
