The Renault team enjoyed a positive first day for the Italian Grand Prix, with both their drivers finishing in the top ten.
Italian Jarno Trulli was the quickest of the Renault duo, outpacing teammate Jenson Button as both got off to a promising start at the Monza circuit. Trulli wound up ninth fastest while Button posted the tenth quickest time, and admitted he did not expect to go that quick on Friday.
"A pretty good day from my point of view," admitted Button. "We managed to get lots of set-up work done, although it's still only Friday and we can't really be sure where we stand overall. Having said that, I'm definitely higher up than I expected to be at the start of the day."
Trulli, who was the busiest man today after completing a total of 44 laps, was also pleased with his day's work.
"We had a good day and managed to get a lot of work done on set-up and the tyres," said the Italian. "The car balance is very good and I'm confident for tomorrow. Overall, we made progress today."
