Frenchman Olivier Panis was quickest on the second day of testing at the Jerez circuit, where three Bridgestone-shod teams are carrying out a three-day programme.
Panis, who was second quickest behind test driver Takuma Sato on Monday, drove the 2000 chassis today, concentrating on tyre development as well testing some brakes.
Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer was seven tenths slower than Panis, the Italian completing the most laps with a total of 109.
Third quickest was German Nick Heidfeld on the new Sauber-Petronas C20, less than two tenths of a second behind the Ferrari. Heidfeld, will be replaced on Wednesday by teammate Kimi Raikkonen, was happy with his progress.
"The car feels really good," Heidfeld said, "and we know that we are only just beginning to scratch the surface of its potential. I cannot wait to get behind the wheel again in Barcelona next week."
Former World Champion Jacques Villeneuve replaced Sato at the wheel of the second BAR today, driving the new 03 chassis for the first time and setting the slowest time of the session, more than two seconds behind Panis.
"I am disappointed as we are quite a bit slower than last year's car and we are not sure what it is yet," said Villeneuve. "Once we have found out what it is then hopefully the car will be a lot quicker.
"It's slow and difficult to drive at the moment but we have got some idea's of what we need to try and we will be concentrating on that tomorrow".
The three-day testing session at Jerez will conclude on Wednesday.
