No action taken on Barrichello incident

The Monaco Grand Prix race stewards have decided that no action needs to be taken after Giancarlo Fisichella appeared to have been held up by Rubens Barrichello in qualifying

Fisichella was left languishing at the bottom of the timesheets after feeling that his best lap was ruined by Barrichello driving around slowly in front of him.

The Italian said: "My first run was not great, but the second was better but then I lost the chance to do a quick lap as I got caught behind Barrichello just after the swimming pool as he was slowing down. Very, very frustrating."

Both Barrichello and Fisichella were called to see the race stewards but after looking at the evidence and speaking to the drivers it was decided that Barrichello had not done anything that warranted a punishment.

A statement issued on Saturday night said: "The Stewards after hearing the explanation of both the Competitors representatives and the drivers decided that the incident required no further action."
