Montezemolo sure of Raikkonen's pace

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is certain that Kimi Raikkonen will perform well for Ferrari this season, despite Felipe Massa outpacing the Finn in testing

The Finn has often been marginally slower than Massa in testing while he has been settling into the team, but Montezemolo firmly believes that Raikkonen will show what he is capable of when the season starts.

Montezemolo has praised Massa's form over the winter, and the Brazilian has been tipped to shine in this weekend's Australian Grand Prix.

"I'm happy with Felipe's growth," Montezemolo was quoted as saying by Gazzetta dello Sport, "but I'm just as sure about Raikkonen's talent. You'll see."

He also added that while the team are not focused on one driver more than the other, any future decision on a number one driver would be based purely on performance.

"I want the winners to be Ferrari, where there are no number ones or number twos. The important thing is for both to drive in favour of Ferrari, and number ones and twos are set by the stopwatch," he said.

The Italian also believes that the first race since Michael Schumacher's retirement could be harder to adapt to than the German's final race was last year.

"It will be a very strange feeling, even stranger than in his last GP," he said. "Not years ago, but five months ago, Schumacher was a main player in the race."
