Mixed Feelings for Fisichella and Jordan

The Jordan team had to put on their brave face after celebrating a victory that was stolen from them only minutes later at Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

There were mixed emotions for the Silverstone-based squad, who thought Fisichella had won them their 200th Grand Prix only to have their celebrations cut short. Fisichella, 110 starts without a win, had swept past Finn Kimi Raikkonen into the lead on lap 54 only for the race to be halted immediately afterwards and the winner declared to be the driver leading at the end of lap 53.

Fisichella's car later caught fire in the pits before officials announced there would be no restart, the Italian having to settle for second position.

"It's obviously very disappointing," Jordan's head of race and test engineering Gary Anderson told ITV. "But if somebody had said we'd finish second at the start, we'd have taken that very happily. He did lead across the line and it's a pity it wasn't a lap longer. The regulations are the regulations and it has to be done for safety."

Fisichella admitted he suffered a rollercoaster ride through his emotions after seeing his assumed victory in the Brazilian Grand Prix handed to Finnish rival Kimi Raikkonen.

"I asked many times 'who won the race' so it was magic moment and I am a little bit disappointed because I could have won the race but for the rules," said Fisichella.

Fisichella, whose record of six second-place finishes includes one for Benetton in Brazil in 2000, was still delighted with the surprise result after failing to score points in the opening two races.

"We didn't believe we could get onto the podium today so it is fantastic," he added. "It was not so good conditions but we managed to keep the car on the road and I think I did a good job."
