Massa adds to Sauber's repair bill

Sauber's Brazilian rookie Felipe Massa has suffered another big crash in testing at Mugello today (Monday), severely damaging his new Sauber just two weeks before the first grand prix of the season. Massa's crash comes 24 hours after team-mate Nick Heidfeld wrecked his C21 at the same venue

Massa, who has been off the circuit half a dozen times already this year, lost control of the car at Turn 11 on his 23rd lap of the day and slammed sideways into the tyre barriers.

He was uninjured in the shunt, and said: "I am disappointed to have crashed the car."

The Brazilian lapped in 1m26.046s before the crash, and also managed to practice a number of refuelling stops. His car will now be rebuilt at the team's Hinwil base before it is shipped to Melbourne for the first grand prix of the year.

Although the three-day test ended disappointingly for the Swiss team, technical director Willy Rampf remains upbeat about the new car's performance.

"Overall, this test confirms our finding from all of our winter testing, that the Sauber Petronas C21 has shown itself to be reliable and very competitive," he said.
