Jordan Talking to Four Drivers Over Remaining Seat

The Jordan team have revealed that they are holding talks with four drivers, with Eddie Irvine, Anthony Davidson, Felipe Massa and Enrique Bernoldi in the running for a seat with the team.

Irvine, sacked by Jaguar, is hoping Jordan, who gave him his F1 break a decade ago, will take him back for one final shot at the sport, while Massa - dumped by Sauber - has said he has all but signed a deal with the team.

Austrian energy drinks brand Red Bull are reportedly interested in a tie-up with Jordan and that could work in Bernoldi's favour - they are long-time backers of the Brazilian, left on the sidelines after his Arrows team were denied the entry in the 2003 Championship.

Davidson, who drove twice for Minardi this season as a deputy for Alex Yoong, is the other driver in the frame holding talks with Eddie Jordan's Silverstone-based team.

"Eddie Jordan's not got a problem finding drivers - there are plenty of very talented names queuing up at his door," a Jordan spokesperson said. "However, we've made no bones about the fact that the decision on drivers will be influenced by financial issues."

Despite admitting Davidson could land a drive with the team next year, the rookie has insisted "the deal is definitely not going to happen".

"If I had £5 million in my back pocket then I probably would get the Jordan drive, but I haven't," admitted Davidson. "It is definitely not going to happen.

"The chances of them getting a sponsor and offering me a drive is zero. I think their driver choice will be a huge surprise. I think it will either be some mega rich guy with no talent or a known face on zero money with a sponsor coming in to pay for it."
