Jordan admits 'big step' is needed
Key figures within the Jordan team have admitted that the current evolution of the EJ13 chassis is not competitive and that major steps will have to be taken if the outfit is to be in a position to fight for points again this season
Jordan's star driver Giancarlo Fisichella made no attempt to hide his disappointment in the performance of the team's cars at the French Grand Prix in Magny-Cours where the Italian found himself fighting over the final few positions with F1 minnows Minardi.
"I'm very disappointed," said Fisichella. "The car had a lot of oversteer and virtually no grip, we are struggling with the whole package. Our pace is not good enough compared to everyone else. Fighting with the Minardis for last position is not my target.
"I need a better car and hope it will come soon - we need a big step."
Jordan's director of race and test engineering Gary Anderson said that work is going on to find a solution to the team's problems: "Clearly our result is disappointing for all but we are all working hard to improve the whole package - chassis, engine and tyres.
"This grand prix was tough for us. We struggled with grip all weekend and it was the same story in the race. Giancarlo had an engine failure but our pace was not good so if he'd finished it wouldn't have been in the points anyway."
