Jerez F1 test: Red Bull has to run without wing after Kvyat error

Red Bull may have to wait until Tuesday to resume its proper pre-season Formula 1 testing programme after being left without a front wing on Monday

Daniil Kvyat ran off the track during a morning installation lap at Jerez, damaging the only front wing that the team had readied for its new RB11.

With no spares available, Red Bull has been forced to send Kvyat out onto the track without a front wing for limited installation lap runs.

Team principal Christian Horner said that spare parts were being flown out from Red Bull's Milton Keynes base, but a finished wing may not be ready until Tuesday.

"Unfortunately Daniil had a very slight off on an install lap this morning on a cold track," explained Horner, when asked by AUTOSPORT to clarify why Red Bull was running without a front wing.

"He was just changing something on the steering wheel between Turns 2 to 3 and very lightly touched the tyre wall with the front wing. That has damaged the front wing.

"It is the only front wing assembly we have at Jerez at the moment, which is relatively usual for this time of year when you are not abundant with spare parts.

"That is why we are running without the main plane at the moment. Obviously more components are coming down later this afternoon and over the next few days."

Horner said there was no doubt Red Bull could resume testing properly on Tuesday - although there remained a chance of the situation being sorted out in the next few hours.

"Certainly by tomorrow...but today is difficult to say at the moment," he said. "It is a work in progress."
