Jaguar Expect Tough Race Despite Revised Suspension

The Jaguar team are expecting to struggle at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix despite the introduction of revised components to the R3B's front suspension.

The Milton Keynes-based squad, who have not scored any points since the season opening Australian Grand Prix, tested the new components during a shakedown at the Silverstone circuit last week, and though team boss Niki Lauda said they were happy with the changes, the Austrian said his drivers are not expecting to shine at the Spa circuit.

"We have made some small component changes to the front suspension and we are happier with the overall steering on the car," said Lauda. "I know that Eddie and Pedro despite the changes to the front suspension are expecting a difficult weekend.

"The circuit is challenging and history predicts an incident packed race. With that in mind we will of course be looking to make the most of any overtaking opportunities that may arise over the weekend."

Eddie Irvine, the man who has scored all three points for Jaguar this year, shook the car down at the British track and was pleased with the car's handling. The Irishman has finished only three races so far in 2002.

Teammate Pedro de la Rosa, who is yet to score a point this year, has not tested the revised components yet, but the Spaniard is not sure the changes will help the team move forward in Belgium.

"Although I did not attend the one-day shakedown I am looking forward to Belgium so that I can test the changes to the front suspension for myself," said de la Rosa. "Despite our changes I suspect that this weekend's racing will remain difficult."
