Head: Williams Need More Consistency

Williams technical director Patrick Head has admitted his team must become more consistent with speed and reliability in order to close the gap on Constructors' Champions Ferrari.
Head admitted that Williams, who have scored three wins in 2001, must make rapid improvements on tracks where they have performed badly this year if they are to make a realistic challenge next season.
"The characteristic has been the variation between circuits we go well at and those we don't go well at," Head said today in Belgium. "We need to be competitive at every race to go for the Championship and we need to be at our best at each race we go to.
"There is a very big gap (to Ferrari) and the points situation is huge, and we have to look at the reasons. In our case more than McLaren's it is a combination between circuits where our speeds have not been good enough and other times when we haven't been reliable.
"It is a process you have to go through to put it right. I don't think it is hard to keep momentum and as long as the team feels it is improving then you get a good atmosphere. Obviously you get ups and downs but the main thing is to progress."
