Hakkinen sets sights on double win

Mika Hakkinen has set his sights on capitalising on Ferrari's misery with back-to-back victories in Austria and Germany

'Eddie Irvine is coming to terms with his new number one position at Ferrari and Mika Salo is getting used to so many new things at a new team and the plan is to capitalise on that,' he told Autosport Online in Spielberg.

Hakkinen, quickest in Saturday's first practice ahead of David Coulthard and Johnny Herbert, won both races last season but this year his advantage over second -placed Irvine is just eight points at mid-season.

'This is an important period in the championship with two races so close. But I'm not going to allow myself to think the situation is any different just because Michael is missing.

'I am still looking to put in the maximum concentration for the rest of the season.

'If I started thinking that Michael was the only threat that would be a big mistake.'

Schumacher is slated to return any time after Monza and may miss the entire season - but rumours in Austria say he is walking already and make return next Sunday in Germany - just three weeks after breaking his leg in two places at the British Grand Prix.

But Hakkinen has refused to write off the chances of teammate David Coulthard or Ferrari rival Irvine who finished one-two at Silverstone.

'There is plenty of challenge coming from Eddie and David and we do not know what Mika Salo is going to do,' said Hakkinen.

'Heinz-Harald Frentzen is also driving well.'

'David is always very strong here. He had a problem in qualifying but was very good in the race,' he said.

'He is aware 100% what the situation is. It is up to him to go for it to the maximum knowing he is 18 points behind me and cannot afford to make a mistake.

'A mistake will destroy his chances as it will for me if I make a mistake.'
