1205BST: Ferrari's Mika Salo sets fastest time (1.13.096). Mika Hakkinen stops his car beside the track, with suspected mechanical trouble.

1210BST: Giancarlo Fisichella (Benetton) goes off track after almost tangling with the Williams of Alex Zanardi.

1215BST: Fisichella sets second fastest time (1.13.097).

1217BST: Heinz-Harald Frentzen (Jordan) records fastest time, but is almost immediately beaten by Mika Hakkinen's spare McLaren.

1220BST: David Coulthard (McLaren goes quickest with a time of 1.11.299.

Top four drivers are: Coulthard, Hakkinen, Irvine and Barrichello.

1225BST: Johnny Herbert (Stewart) fifth quickest. Minardi's Luca Badoer spins off, but manages to keep engine running.

1228BST: Mika Salo goes seventh fastest. Williams driver Ralf Schumacher is eighth.

1240BST: Eddie Irvine's Ferrari goes third fastest. Damon Hill up to 11th.

1242BST: Mika Hakkinen sets a time of 1.10.954 to go top. Coulthard sets his fastest time, but not quick enough to dislodge his team-mate.

1247BST: Luca Badoer 19th fastest. Frontrunners in pits preparing for final laps.

1252BST: Frentzen goes fourth after setting his fastest time.

1255BST: Zonta goes off track and stalls, ruling him out of the remainder of the session.
