Grapevine: Honda rubbish Barrichello's IRL link

Honda F1 CEO Nick Fry has dismissed speculation that Rubens Barrichello may quit Formula One for the IRL in a swap deal with IndyCar Series front-runner Marco Andretti

The Brazilian, who is set to become Formula One's most experienced driver of all time, was reported in the US press to be considering a switch to Andretti Green Racing, with Andretti, the grandson of 1978 F1 world champion Mario, taking his place in the Honda team.

But speaking to autosport.com, Fry ruled out the switch adding that he did not expect to see Barrichello racing on ovals any time soon.

"Rubens' wife has said that if there was one thing she didn't want him doing, it was oval racing," said Fry. "So that seems to have been translated into a swap between two drivers.

"I know nothing about it whatsoever, and neither does Rubens, so we are somewhat amazed by where this has come from. I think we can knock that one on the head, even though we did give Marco a drive and we keep an eye on what he is doing."

Andretti tested for Honda at Barcelona in the winter of 2006 while Mario Andretti has gone on record as saying he wants to see Marco move to F1 sooner, rather than later.

Fry insisted however that Honda have no current plans to test Andretti, adding that he thought Barrichello was enjoying a period of strong form currently.

"Rubens is definitely having an Indian summer, the first three races he has done a great job and now we are just looking for him to keep it up," he said.
