GP2 racer Alex Lynn keeps Williams Formula 1 development role

As with last year, Lynn will dovetail a GP2 season with DAMS with his Williams work, after being appointed to the development role ahead of the 2015 campaign.

The 2014 GP3 champion represented Williams in the Barcelona in-season test last year, but the announcement does not mention similar outings this year.

Williams has appointed Formula 3 driver Lance Stroll as another development driver, while former tester Susie Wolff retired at the end of 2015.

"I am really delighted to continue in my development driver role with the team this season and remain grateful for their ongoing support," Lynn said.

"I relish the opportunity to build on the hard work I put in last year, to continue helping develop the Formula 1 car and gaining further knowledge of the inner workings of the Williams team from both a technical and human perspective.

"With the team's blessing and support, my main focus this season will be to fight for the GP2 title.

"I am determined to prove myself worthy of graduating to become a fully-fledged Formula 1 race driver at some point in the not too distant future."

Claire Williams, deputy team principal of Williams, is hoping that with a further year under his belt with the team, Lynn will continue his upward momentum.

Williams said: "Alex played an important role in helping develop the team's race cars in 2015, while at the same time demonstrating his talent with a strong debut season in GP2.

"We're looking forward to seeing him progress this year, both within the team and as he fights for the GP2 title."

Lynn won the Formula Renault UK title in 2011, Formula 3's Macau Grand Prix '13, and his GP3 crown one year later.

The 22-year-old finished sixth on his maiden GP2 outing last season, claiming two pole positions and two race wins.
