Frentzen set to miss French Grand Prix
Heinz-Harald Frentzen could miss the next Grand Prix after crashing out in Montreal three laps from a memorable second place
Doctors were carrying out more tests on the Jordan driver yesterday, and said his participation in the next race in France was in doubt.
There was bleeding in the German's skull after the accident, and doctors want to be sure it has stopped.
Frentzen plunged sideways into a tyre wall after the front right brake disc exploded. He was helicoptered to Sacre Coeur Hospital in Montreal for a brain scan.
'He almost lost consciousness after the accident and we wanted to check everything was alright,' said Jacques Bouchard, the chief medical officer for the Canadian Grand Prix.
'We found he had a little bit of bleeding into his skull and we want to do a more detailed MRID scan to check it is not continuing.
'We are waiting for the results of the latest test. When we get the results we will know long he has to be out of the car.
'It was the deceleration that caused it. He took a bang on the side of his head.'
'It is not down to us to decide whether he has to miss the next race - that's down to Frentzen and his team.'
Until now, Frentzen's career was enjoying a renaissance and he had put his team-mate Damon Hill in the shade with two finishes on the podium in five races.
He was comfortably heading for another impressive third when he crashed.
After the race team boss Eddie Jordan said, 'Heinz's accident was nasty. The most important thing is to make sure he is not hurt, and to get him back to the fantastic form he has been showing all season.'
