Zanardi's F1 future secure

Alex Zanardi's future at Williams is safe for at least another year, despite poor results

Team boss Frank Williams has dismissed rumours that Alex Zanardi's drive could be under threat if his performances do not improve.

'Alex is perfectly safe,' said Williams. 'He's got a three-year contract and he's a strong man.'

Before the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, Williams blamed the team's reliability problems for a large part of Zanardi's lack of pace.

Williams added, 'I'm very happy with Alex. The problems he has been having are more down to us than him.

'We have other things to address before we even think about the drivers. Alex is a very competent driver and an interesting man who has a very non-Italian way of going about life.'

Zanardi admitted at the Canadian GP that F1 is 'more difficult and tougher' than he thought it would be.

He added, 'But it is not over yet. I will be able to perform better.'
