Ford gives Jaguar its full backing

Ford chief executive officer Sir Nick Scheele has told AUTOSPORT that the company is fully committed to the Jaguar Formula 1 programme and that the team will have not just the money it needs but also the technology and staff to break into the winners' circle

"There is absolutely no question, I want to see us in F1," he said. "You look at the history of Jaguar and it is a winner. Jaguar is going to win in F1 and we are committed to it."

Jaguar has had a disastrous 2002 campaign thus far, with its only top six finish coming in the opening race in Australia. But Scheele insists the ingredients are already in place for the marque to be successful.

"We had some mistakes at the start, but we have got the fundamentals in place," he said. "We have put the technology behind it and we will continue to commit the resources.

"People talk about money and say money is what works in F1, but money is no good if you don't have the brainpower behind it. It is brainpower we can bring to bear and we have the finest research establishments in the motoring industry in the world and we can harness the power of it."

Jaguar is scheduled to introduce a revised aerodynamic package on its R3 at next month's British GP.

The full story appears in this week's AUTOSPORT, which is on sale now priced £2.80
