Fisichella Hoping for Wet Qualifying

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella is hoping for a wet qualifying on Saturday after setting the third quickest time in a rain-hit practice session today.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella is hoping for a wet qualifying on Saturday after setting the third quickest time in a rain-hit practice session today.

The Jordan driver is still looking to score his first points of the season at this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix after a disappointing start of the year filled with reliability problems.

Fisichella took full advantage of the two wet sessions on Friday, to enjoy a promising day and finish only behind the two Ferrari drivers. Now the Roman is hoping for rain again on Saturday to qualify in the top six and have a good chance of a points finish in Sunday's race.

"I am very pleased with how the free practice went," admitted Fisichella after the session. "Clearly the wet and cold conditions here in Imola suit our package well so we are more competitive.

"The conditions on the track were very difficult but I don't mind driving in the wet at all and would be happy if it stayed wet for qualifying. If it does I believe we could qualify in the top six."

Fisichella's teammate Takuma Sato was eleventh quickest, the Japanese driver being happier with the Honda-powered EJ12 when the Imola circuit was at its wettest.
