Ferrari Offer Schumacher Lifetime Job

Four time Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher says Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo recently made him a lifetime offer to stay with the carmaker.

Four time Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher says Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo recently made him a lifetime offer to stay with the carmaker.

"He basically told me, 'If you want to drive until you're 100, then you can drive till you're 100'," Schumacher told the Koelner Stadt-Anzeiger newspaper, according to an advance copy of the interview due to appear in Saturday's edition.

Schumacher has ruled out switching to another team. He said that after he ends his driving career he would like to work as a representative for the Italian carmaker. He also made it clear he would have no interest in Ferrari team boss Jean Todt's job.

"I wouldn't want that job," he said. "That's not my thing."

Schumacher, who leads the standings with 34 points after four races, said he doesn't expect McLaren-Mercedes to pose a threat to a fifth Championship this year, only BMW-Williams with drivers Ralf Schumacher and Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya.

"They'll probably have to write it off," he said of McLaren's hopes of taking the title away from him.

Schumacher said he has a distant relationship to Montoya, with whom he has twice been involved in crashes this year. "We have entirely different characters and ways of thinking," he said.
