Ferrari cops $10,000 fine

Ferrari was fined $10,000 for a pitlane infringement during the Bahrain Grand Prix when it was adjudged to have almost caused a collision by releasing Rubens Barrichello's car when Jarno Trulli was coming in for his stop

Barrichello's first pit stop, on lap 10, was delayed when the nut on the right rear wheel cross-threaded and the lollipop man initially allowed Barrichello to go despite the rear wheel still being jacked up, causing some confusion.

Ross Brawn explained: "[Ferrari lollipop man] Hugo was unsighted. The guy had gone off the wheel and he thought he'd finished, so he lifted the lollipop. But, the guy on the right rear hadn't finished - he was turning around to get a gun and luckily the guy on the rear jack was watching very carefully and didn't let the car down."

As Barrichello did finally leave the pits he almost collected Trulli.

"That was our fault," Brawn admitted candidly. "We should have watched the pitlane while the pit stop was going wrong. It also meant that we were much closer to Montoya. We were actually watching him instead of watching the pitlane. We need to be more careful. Having complained about Trulli in the last race, it was only fair that we should be fined for doing the same!"
