Dennis sets sights on Ferrari

After Kimi Raikkonen qualified on pole position and finished second in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone aboard the revised McLaren MP4-19B, McLaren-Mercedes is confident of an even stronger showing in the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim on July 25

Team boss Ron Dennis said: "In Magny-Cours a week ago we were still learning the new car. And in different ways the true potential wasn't demonstrated in that race - Kimi's poor qualifying and David's poor start (which wasn't his fault) masked what was a bigger step than it appeared.

"Silverstone was good and we now go to Hockenheim. With a bit higher ambient temperature we should be in good shape. And we hope we've got a step which we'll test this week and we'll have on the cars in Germany, so we're looking forward to it."

Dennis said that there were more developments coming through for the 19B as well as a hike in power expected for the German race.

"We've got more things in the pipeline and we took a lot of pain for the six weeks running up to the French Grand Prix, when we effectively ceased development on the A car and concentrated on the B," he said. "And I think it's paid off quite well.

"Of course, we're under no illusions," he continued. "Michael Schumacher had a much more dominant performance at the end of his stints at Silverstone. He was going to be difficult to beat - but we beat Rubens fair and square. He's been on the pace in many races so we have a chance of beating them this year - that's the important thing."
