Dennis Responds to Mosley's Comments

McLaren boss Ron Dennis on Saturday responded to outgoing FIA president Max Mosley and said his press conference appearance on Friday was full of inaccuracies.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis on Saturday responded to outgoing FIA president Max Mosley and said his press conference appearance on Friday was full of inaccuracies.

Mosley announced on Thursday morning - less than 24 hours after the FIA's World Motor Sport Council held a meeting in Paris - that he is to step down from his post in October. He offered his reasons in a media appearance at the Magny-Cours circuit but Dennis claims Mosley had got things wrong when he launched an attack on the teams for destabilising the sport.

"Many things he said were not accurate," Dennis said referring to a raft of proposals, which he said the teams had initiated or agreed to despite Mosley stating that he would force through changes.

"The teams agreed to qualifying changes proposed in the Formula One Commission but this was preceded by Max saying that he did not want qualifying introduced. I don't think Max's reasons for leaving from the FIA are consistent with what he says.

"I think you should look into the Formula One World Council meeting and find what took place in there."

In the press conference, Mosley referred to one team boss as "not the sharpest knife in the drawer" and Dennis admitted he had taken the criticism, which he believed was aimed his way, as a compliment.

Mosley has now activated a clause in the Concorde Agreement, which governs Formula One, and has given the teams 60 days to come up with changes to be made to the sport. If they are unable to agree, he will then offer the teams three proposals - changes to engines, tyres and aerodynamics and give them 45 days to accept them.
