Davidson Still Sees Slim Chance at Jordan

Briton Anthony Davidson believes he may still be in with a chance of driving for the Jordan Formula One team this season despite being signed as a BAR test driver.

"There is still a chance but it's not very likely," Davidson said after appearing on stage in a BAR race suit at the launch of his team's new car in Barcelona. "It's not totally ruled out yet...It's not fully closed, they (Jordan) are not saying no."

Davidson started two races for Minardi last season as a stand-in for Malaysian Alex Yoong and acquitted himself well, despite failing to finish. Minardi have now filled their 2003 line-up with Britain's Justin Wilson and Dutchman Jos Verstappen, leaving Jordan as the only team remaining with a vacancy after parting with Japan's Takuma Sato.

Sato is now with Davidson at BAR.

"(Team boss) Eddie (Jordan) is still talking to several drivers," a Jordan spokeswoman said. The team have yet to schedule their launch, concentrating on finding a title sponsor first.

Brazilian Felipe Massa, with probable backing from Ford in Brazil, is seen as a frontrunner for the job but Briton Eddie Irvine, released by Jaguar at the end of last year, also wants the drive.

Davidson said he would also be interested in driving for a new CART team that former BAR boss Craig Pollock is expected to announce in Canada on Wednesday.
