Button: Brawn given Honda fresh direction

Jenson Button says he has never been happier in his Formula One career, even though he doesn't think Honda are in a position to score points at the moment

The appointment of Ross Brawn as the new team principal has given Button a new lease of life and he believes things are now moving in the right direction.

"I might be in a car that's not going to get points for a few races, but I couldn't be in a happier position for the future," he said. "Of course 2004 was a good year, but I am probably in a happier place at the moment."

Button admitted that his enthusiasm for the future was beginning to fade last season, but the change in attitude at Honda has given him fresh confidence.

"Before we realised how far we were from where we needed to be and started employing new people, I wasn't that excited about the future. I wanted to stand by Honda because I thought they could achieve a lot in the future, but I wasn't amazingly happy.

"I think they have really opened their eyes and realised that we needed someone like Ross in the team, and we needed to look elsewhere for aerodynamicists and what have you. Things have turned around and we've definitely gone in the right direction. I'm looking forward to it, I really am."

He puts the change down to the fresh approach that Brawn has brought to the team since his arrival.

"We have a lot more technical direction than before. Everyone knows Ross knows what he's talking about and he's a calming influence to everyone. He's not going in there shouting, he just let's everyone know his thoughts. It sounds cheesy, but he brings out the best in people.

"He's pointed out areas where I wouldn't notice we were lacking in and we've really built on those areas. At the moment everything in the team is great but I'm sure Ross knows of a few areas where we need to improve and he's doing a great job of trying to make it work."
