BMW asked to modify rear wing

BMW-Sauber have been asked to make modifications to their rear wing before next weekend's French Grand Prix, according to a report in this week's Autosport

As revealed by autosport.com last month, the German team have been at the centre of a controversy over their rear wing since the Canadian Grand Prix, when Honda Racing threatened to protest them after obtaining photographs that indicated their rear wing was flexing.

Although the protest never materialized, this week's Autosport reveals that the FIA took a close look at the rear wing of the F1.06 at last weekend's United States Grand Prix and have duly asked for modifications to be made for Magny-Cours.

As part of the inspection, a small FIA seal was placed on the join between the main element and the upper element of the rear wing, in a bid to find out whether or not the wing was indeed flexing.

Those tests have resulted in the FIA asking that BMW stiffen part of their rear wing elements in time for the next round of the championship.

The rear wing controversy appears to have dented BMW's push on the aerodynamic side very little, however, with Robert Kubica running with some radical vertical fins in front of the cockpit at Jerez in Spain this week.
