Teams considering GP weekend revamp

Amid growing dissatisfaction that the current Friday practice format delivers little of use to fans or the teams, moves are being made to abandon the current timetable in favour of making Friday a full testing day.

The move would be traded off with a dramatic reduction in in-season testing, cutting up to 20 days off the current agreement laid out for 2007. And as well as testing, spectators would be catered for with driver autograph sessions, paddock tours and other entertainment.

Autosport understands that the majority of teams have indicated their support for the move, which would turn an official Grand Prix weekend into a two-day event.

Renault boss Flavio Briatore told Autosport: "We hardly ever think about the spectators. We can help them by being more efficient at the same time about the way we race and test. So where's the problem?"

Honda Racing boss Nick Fry added: "This makes sense. Fans get a raw deal on Fridays as a lot of the race drivers don't even run and they're the guys they have paid to see."
