BMW Aim to Have New Engine Ready in January

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen is confident that the German manufacturer can provide a new power-unit, ready to run, for the Williams team in January.

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen is confident that the German manufacturer can provide a new power-unit, ready to run, for the Williams team in January.

Theissen, who along with Gerhard Berger, has helped provide the Williams team with an engine that has brought them back to the forefront of the sport.

"It is a very tight deadline," said Theissen. "The original plan was to be out in the first week of January, and it is a matter of hours rather than days away from that.

"It is important to get it out then and we are trying. Certainly we will improve the engine in terms of weight, size and power, and I very much hope that we will have a reliable engine next year. It is not a revolution. Compared to this year's engine we are building on this year's successful concept and trying to improve every concept."

Williams have won four races through their drivers Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya this season and have secured third place in the Constructors' Championship, while also closing the gap on the top-two McLaren and Ferrari.
