Barrichello hopes dashed
Brazil's Rubens Barrichello saw his high hopes of scoring Stewart's maiden grand prix victory dashed in France today as he had to settle for third in a thrilling race in Magny Cours
Barrichello had started on pole - the first in the team's short history - but was unable to convert that into 10 points despite a brave battle with Ferrari's Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen's McLaren.
But the four points, from his second appearance on the podium this season underlined the ability of the 27-year-old and the potential of the Ford-powered team.
'I can't say I'm disappointed because I am on the podium but I did think it would be ours today,' said Barrichello.
'When you start on pole you always hope you might win, but third place is not too bad a position to be. It is good to be back on the podium again and I really enjoyed the race.
'But I did have some problems with the car in the first part of the race and was getting quite a lot of oversteer. The car was difficult to drive and I was losing time to the McLaren's, Ferrari and Jordan.
'But I enjoyed the battles with Michael even though I was trying to be as careful as possible. They were great battles and I hope there will be many more of them because the car is getting competitive. We will be there.'
