Badoer stays on top at Barcelona

The Italian, working on new aero solutions aimed at the remaining part of the season, set a best time of 1:21.013 to finish on top of the times, going over a whole second quicker than yesterday.

Badoer outpaced McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa by over three tenths, with Toyota's Timo Glock being the fastest race driver in third ahead of the Williams of Nico Rosberg and the Red Bull of David Coulthard.

Championship leader Robert Kubica completed his two-day programme for BMW Sauber, the Pole continuing work on the aerodynamical and mechanical set-up of the F1.08 in preparation for the French Grand Prix.

Teammate Nick Heidfeld will wrap up the test for BMW tomorrow, the German hoping to make progress on his problems with qualifying.

With the Toro Rosso team joining today's session, only Force India were absent from the Spanish test.

There were a total of three red flags during the session.

The first one was caused by Renault's Nelsinho Piquet, who stopped with a gearbox problem in the morning. That was followed by a hydraulic failure from Badoer's Ferrari after noon and a similar problem in Glock's Toyota just before 3pm.

The session took place on a dry track for most of the day, but a 20-minute shower at 10am hampered the early running.

The Barcelona test ends tomorrow.
