Berger Tips Button as Future Champion
BMW Motorsport director Gerhard Berger on Sunday backed Jenson Button to be a Formula One world champion one day with Williams.
BMW Motorsport director Gerhard Berger on Sunday backed Jenson Button to be a Formula One world champion one day with Williams.
Berger said the 20-year-old British driver, who is now starting a two-year loan move from Williams to Benetton-Renault, had a great debut season.
"It will be difficult to see him in another team next year but he is still young and he can still improve," said the former F1 driver.
"I understand Frank Williams has a long-term deal with Jenson and I wouldn't be surprised if one day you see Jenson Button as world champion."
BMW, engine suppliers to Williams, unveiled their 2001 power unit during their end-of-season party in Austria.
"We have a new engine for next season, every part of it will be different," said BMW motorsport director Mario Thiessen.
"I can't say that it will be smaller and lighter and I don't believe what others are saying about the weight of their engines. I don't think you can go below 100 kilos with current technology."
