Andretti: Montoya Might be Unbeatable
Former Formula One World Champion Mario Andretti believes Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya could be unbeatable now that he has scored his first Grand Prix win.
Former Formula One World Champion Mario Andretti believes Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya could be unbeatable now that he has scored his first Grand Prix win.
Montoya, making his Formula One debut this season with the Williams team after clinching the CART title in 1999 and the Indy 500 in 2000, scored his first victory at the Italian Grand Prix ten days ago.
1978 World Champion Andretti, who was the last man to win the Indy 500 and the U.S. Formula One Grand Prix, believes Montoya has all it takes to become a champion, and has warned Michael and Ralf Schumacher to watch out for the Colombian rookie.
"He has the qualities of a champion in every form," said Andretti. "He's brave, he's smart and he's as fast as they make them. He knows he's as good as anyone out there, including the Schumachers.
"These (Ralf and Michael) had better watch out. Now that he's won a race, he might be unbeatable."
Montoya has scored three pole positions so far in 2001, and he is the bookies' favourite to win at Indianapolis next Sunday.
