Alonso Delighted with Revised Renault

Spaniard Fernando Alonso was delighted with the improved performance of his Renault car in today's qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Spaniard Fernando Alonso was delighted with the improved performance of his Renault car in today's qualifying for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Renault have introduced an updated version of their R23 car - named R23B - for this weekend's race, with a new aerodynamic package that Alonso praised after setting the fourth fastest time in first qualifying.

Alonso finished only behind World Champion Michael Schumacher and Williams drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher and said he was confident of fighting with them all weekend long.

"Everything went well all day," admitted the Spanish driver. "We had no problems with the car during the various sessions, and we found a good balance for my timed lap. The new aero package is better everywhere, with more grip all the way round the lap. I hope we will be able to fight with the top teams again this weekend."

Italian Jarno Trulli completed a promising start for the French squad, posting the sixth quickest time of the day.

"I'm happy with the result," said Trulli. " I have had a good day, in spite of a few problems finding the right set-up this morning. We got on top of the situation, though, and I didn't make any mistakes on my qualifying lap. Our package is working well here, and we are competitive."
